MEETING A N N O U N C E M E N T S NASAL PASSAGE TOXICOLOGY The seventh CIIT Conference on Toxicology, entitled Toxicology o f the Nasal Passages, is to be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, on 22-23 February 1984. The aim of the symposium is to summarize present knowledge on nasal cavity toxicity, to identify areas of research that need to be expanded or initiated, and to address the relevance of animal data to human risk assessment. Details are available from Ms A. McCarthy, CIIT, PO Box 12137, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709, USA. FATS IN HUMAN NUTRITION A conference entitled The Role o f Fats in Human Nutrition is to be held at Reading University on 11-12 April 1984. The wide-ranging programme of lectures will review the recent advances in theoretical and practical aspects of fats in human nutrition and should be of interest to oils and fats chemists, biochemists and members of the food industry. Further details and a registration form are available from the Conference Secretariat, Society of Chemical Industry, 14/15 Belgrave Square, London SW1X 8PS. PYRETHROID INSECTICIDES The Pesticide Group of the Society of Chemical Industry will hold a symposium entitled Pyrethroid Insecticides in the Environment at the University of Southampton on 12-13 April 1984. The symposium will cover physico-chemical properties, fate and biological effects in aquatic and terrestrial systems, and laboratory toxicity and hazard in the field. Reviews will be given on pyrethroids and resistance, and on pyrethroids and public health. Further information may be obtained from K. E. Elgar, Shell Research Ltd, Sittingbourne Research Centre, Sittingbourne, Kent ME9 SAG. PHTHALIC ACID ESTERS An international conference on phthalic acid esters, in conjunction with the IX International Congress of Pharmacology (London), is to be held at the University of Surrey, 6-7 August 1984. Further details are available from Prof. J. W. Bridges, The Robens Institute, University of Surrey, Guildford, Surrey, or from Dr J. A. Thomas, Travenol Laboratories, Inc., Morton Grove, IL 60053, USA. NICKEL TOXICOLOGY The Third International Conference on Nickel Metabolism and Toxicology, sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry and the Association of Clinical Scientists, is to be held in Paris on 4-7 September 1984. The main topics will include nickel biochemistry, nickel metabolism in experimental animals and man, carcinogenicity and immunotoxicity of nickel compounds, clinical and epidemiological studies of nickel workers, and biological monitoring of nickel exposures in the workplace. Further information and registration forms are available from Dr F. W. Sunderman, Programme Chairman, University of Connecticut School of Medicine, 263 Farmington Avenue, Farmington, CT 66032, USA.
