N a t semi for games National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd has recently sisned a £250 000 contract with Gowerpoint Ltd, the Cardiff-based manufacturer of 8amin8 machines for the supply of 8-bit SC/MP microprocessors. Until now, Gowerpoint has been usin8 Io~ic boards supplied by a Derbyshire-based wirin~ company in order to perform functions such as 8ale control, dial display and payout normally activated in fruit machines by complex banks of relays. Gowerpoint is now to be~in production of its own boards. The company has the expertise to produce its firmware more economically than if it was bousht in. The switch to home-produced lo~ic boards also fits in with the

In ceremonies held at ROLM Corporation's headquarters, Tony Holbrook, vice president and division manager of Bipolar Operations at AMD, delivered to Leo Chamberlain, ROLM's vice president and 8eneral manaser of the Mil-Spec Computer Division, the millionth 2901. The presentation included an appropriately marked part and a plaque recordin8 the occasion. Since its introduction in 1975, there have been several 8enerations of the 2901, each offerin8 a 20-30% speed improvement and 25-40% die size reduction. The price has also 8one down 30% every year.
A b a c u s enters O E M market Abacus Computers Limited, worldwide distributors of TEl microcomputers, are now marketin~ a ranse of nonterminal computer hardware for the OEM market. Mainframe units in ventilated heavy duty cabinets are available in desktop and rack-mounted versions. Power supplies are TEl noise immune constant voltase units. Fully shielded, ~rounded and actively terminated S100 motherboards are also fitted. Mainframes with 12- or 22-slot racks are available, and options include cards for ZS0, 8080 and 8085 processors.
