N a t semi for games National Semiconductor (UK) Ltd has recently sisned a £250 000 contract with Gowerpoint Ltd, the Cardiff-based manufacturer of 8amin8 machines for the supply of 8-bit SC/MP microprocessors. Until now, Gowerpoint has been usin8 Io~ic boards supplied by a Derbyshire-based wirin~ company in order to perform functions such as 8ale control, dial display and payout normally activated in fruit machines by complex banks of relays. Gowerpoint is now to be~in production of its own boards. The company has the expertise to produce its firmware more economically than if it was bousht in. The switch to home-produced lo~ic boards also fits in with the

The presentation included an appropriately marked part and a plaque recordin8 the occasion. Since its introduction in 1975, there have been several 8enerations of the 2901, each offerin8 a 20-30% speed improvement and 25-40% die size reduction. The price has also 8one down 30% every year.

Fully shielded, ~rounded and actively terminated S100 motherboards are also fitted. Mainframes with 12- or 22-slot racks are available, and options include cards for ZS0, 8080 and 8085 processors.
