Public consensus: Y2K concern "not our problem" A
survey conducted by Lancaster University has revealed that although nearly everyone claims to know about the Millennium bug and its potential for disrupting our technology-dependent lives, few people are taking the threat seriously and consider it to be other people's concern. The public show that they are sceptical of media reports, and are choosing to wait and see. Few are i m m e d i a t e l y concerned. Their reaction has been
limited to checking their own computers and not b o o k i n g air travel for the first day o f the new millennium. The researchers will track their panel, involving 100 members, to the millennium day to see if they change their plans as Year 2000 approaches.
