NEWS

Product news • Identix has announced a highquality fingerprint scanning device for use in civil applications. The TouchPrint 2000 Applicant Fingerprinting System (TP-2000 AFS) is based on the supplier’s FBI Appendix F-Certified TouchPrint 2000 and supports direct connections to state and Federal Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems (AFIS) networks. The US$30,000 systems could be used to screen the backgrounds of job applicants. The devices will use Identix’s Moisture-Discriminating optical technology. • Schlumberger Test & Transactions has developed the Schlumberger Network Solutions Security Support Kit(a) (SSK 3.0). The kit combines Schlumberger’s smart card-based solutions with 3-G International’s (3GI) authentication technology to help manage enterprise-wide security. The SSK 3.0 allows administrators to manage biometrics, smart cards and passwords, offering a platform for secure biometric and certificate storage, digital signature generation, advanced encryption, photo ID, physical access control, e-cash and other services, the suppliers claim • Ankari has launched Trinity 3.0, a software suite that provides a framework for integrating authentication into network security infrastructures. Trinity 3.0 supports numerous authentication devices, including third party fingerprint readers, smart card readers and RSA SecurID tokens. The software also supports multi-factor authentication, allowing any combination of smart cards, biometric devices, passwords and tokens. • A new time and attendance application has been launched by Biocentric Solutions. The CombiMemory system is based on fingerprint and memory card technology and can be easily and inexpensively retrofitted (or upgraded) into an organization’s existing time and attendance systems, the company claims.

Iris recognition

Network server announced to integrate iris recognition Iridian Technologies has launched an authentication server that is designed to make it easier for businesses to integrate iris recognition technology into their computer networks. The KnoWho server is designed to secure a variety of transaction-based applications, while running large user databases. Two of the server’s primary components are a processing engine that enrolls and matches IrisCodes

in real time, and a data component that stores IrisCode records and related information. The server can operate in identification or verification mode and can also store facial images. According to Iridian, the potential uses of the server include password and privilege management, as well as client/server and web applications – eliminating the need for passwords or tokens. The supplier is targeting the healthcare market in particular. It believes the solution could be ideal for meeting certain HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1998) regulations, such as access to medical records, drug dispensing and prescription fulfillment. In this area, Iridian recently announced an alliance with FullTilt Solutions, a US-based internet software development and integration company. The companies plan to integrate iris recognition into a ready-to-implement patient information delivery system, which would use Iridian’s iris recognition and videoconferencing camera Authenticam.
