DUCTNEWS Pressurefiltrationequipmentfor generating Fuel filter systemtest facilityis extended ultrapureliquids * 1 and offers full performancetests before delivery A range of pressure filtration The modified Schleicher equipment for decontaminating and generating ultrapure liquids has been introduced by Schleicher and Scheull. The equipment is particularly suited to use with media which are very difficult to filter. The new MD142/7 made of PIFE, is a pressure filtration system specially designed for the filtration of aggressive liquids of media which must not come into contact with metals. All parts which are in contact with the medium are made of PTFE or are PTFE coated in order to prevent corrosion of the filtration device. A pipe connection with a special distribution system ensures regular distribution of the filtration medium on the membrane filter.

and Scheull pressure filter holders MD142lseries are made of stainless steel for fluid filtration and safe sterilization. The special features of the new MD 142/5 and MD142/6 are their lock technique, offering more safety during filtration and also their compatibility. Depending on the requirements, a filter holder platform may be used in connection with an infusion vessel or a standard model may be combined with a GMP-model. The filtration equipment is designed for low hold up volume. They are easy to clean, easy to handle and autoclavable. Scheicher and Schuell GmbH, PO Box 4, D-37582, Dassel, Gwmuuy. Continuousparticulatemonitorfor use on stacks The Anacon Corporation Ltd has released a continuous particulate monitor for use on stacks, the Model 336. This fully calibratable instrument comes with analogue and serial outputs, high dust and maintenance alarms, direct readout in mg/m3 or gr/dscf, leaking filter bag detection system and a ran e from 0.01 mg/m3 to 3 g/m I . Also incorporated is an opto-electronic system, which allows the instrument to work in stacks where there is strong sunlight, which is a problem

for some other light-based systems. The Model 336 has been designed to be used by companies who already have sophisticated data-capture systems such as PLC’s dataloggers or chart recorders for their environmental data. The control unit enclosure is rated at IP 67 to prevent the ingress of moisture or dust. Anacon Corporation Ltd, Goodsons Industriul Mews, Wellington Street, Thame, Oxfoordshire OX9 3BX, UK. Newdewateringsystemfor waterandwastewatertreatmentplants The Dewa filterbelt press, a new space-saving dewatering system, designed for low energy consumption and low maintenance costs, has been developed by DWT-Engineering Gy, Finland. The filterbelt press eliminates the need for a settling tank by employing continuous belt filters through which the treated water passes by gravitation and by pressure from 214

acid-proof steel rollers. The press has three zones, each with a filter-belt. Water passes from the pre-dewatering zone, through the gravltation zone, to the pressing zone, which is sub-divided into low-pressure and highpressure sections. There are four different types of Filterbelt presses, including the N-PD type for water and waste-water treat-

The fuel filter test facilities in the UK, situated at Alan Cobbam Engineering, has now been extended. The new facilities include a flow test rig with absolute calibration by weight and a flow capacity from 45 to 4500 l/min; a self-contained pilot plant for specialist filtration and separation investigations with customer’s process fluids; single element filter test rig for hydrocarbon/ water separation trials; a 50 metre hose test facility for hoses up to 200 mm diameter and a maximum pressure of 26 bar. These complement the existing purpose-built facility for testing fuel filters, which meets the requirements of commercial and military aviation fuel standards. Flow capacity of the fuel test rig is 4.5 to 3500 l/min. Solids injection and sampling, tem-

perature control, flow control are all available as well as emulsion and water slug injection. The test facility has a storage capacity of 160 000 litres and 55 000 litres respectively for fuel, water and emulsified liquid testing. Alan Cobham Engineering also has a fully equipped fuel and water analysis laboratory to support this facility. The test facility is extensively used in the development and commissioning of their own fuel handling and conditioning products. Complete skldded system packages up to 6 m long have been demonstrated and performance tested prior to delivery, saving valuable customer time on site. AnO-ringseal developedfor criticalfiltration duties The performance of sealing filters can be improved, it is claimed, by using Vulcan Chem-rings. Vulcan Chem-rings combine the sealing force of an elastomer with the chemical resistance of PTFE. The O-rings are available in either FEP or PFA encapsulation with a silicone or Viton core. The company says Chemrings have a near universal

sealing capability. Vulcan Chem-rings are produced by a unique manufacturing process to give a seamless encapsulation of the core material. Vulcan will certify the tolerance on the rings and offer 100% inspection.
