Seal, bearing manufacturers form supply agreement New Speedi-Sleeve gives Garlock Sealing Technologies has entered into seals ranging up to 2286 mm (90 inches) diam- better wear resistance an agreement with The Timken Company for the supply of engineered oil seals and bearing isolators. The expanded line of Timken industrial seals will be available in the United States and Canada during November 2006, with other regions of the world to follow in 2007. ‘This alliance with Timken broadens our global supply network and expands our presence in many important markets,’ says Paul Baldetti, president of Garlock Sealing Technologies. ‘Klozure products will now be available on a much wider basis, giving us access to new customers while providing all of our existing customers with more options for obtaining our products as well as improved service.’ Garlock will supply Timken with industrial
eter. Products include: • A number of large-bore styles for specific applications. • A line of metallic and PTFE bearing isolators. • Heavy duty, assembled, small-bore seals. • A comprehensive line of split seals.
Garlock Klozure will still continue to market seals and bearing isolators independently to its distributors and industrial customers. Contact: Garlock Sealing Technologies, 1666 Division Street, Palmyra, NY 14522, USA. Tel: +1 315 597 3104, Fax: +1 315 597 3039, Email:

SKF has introduced a new version of the SpeediSleeve for the restoration of worn shafts in lip seal applications. The thin-walled, hard-wearing sleeves with a high-quality finish are pushed into position over worn shafts to provide them with a brand new sealing surface. The standard Speedi-Sleeves are made from SAE 304 stainless steel, with a surface that is machined without directionality to a finish of Ra = 0.25 to 0.5 µm. In addition, the Speedi-Sleeve Gold has a special coating that increases surface hardness to approximately 2300 Vickers. This is particularly suitable for use in high dust and grit environments. New elastomer has broader application range Greene, Tweed has introduced a new perfluoroelastomer that is said to have a wider application range than other commercially available elastomers. The new seal material is aimed at the chemical process and refining industries, to provide increased service life across a wider range of applications. Chemraz 555 can be used at up to
316°C (600°F), and offers a lower compression set than many other perfluoroelastomer materials. It is able to handle a variety of aggressive media, from acids, caustics and aldehydes to hot water, steam amines and methanol, in a range of temperatures and pressures, providing the potential to specify one elastomer material across many applications. It is considered to be particularly suitable where a robust seal is required for mechanical seals, pump housings, compressors and mixers. The compression set of the new Chemraz 555 is lower than a number of comparable materials.
Editor’s comment: As is perhaps usual with perfluoroelastomer materials, there is no mention of the low-temperature capabilities.
