Parker extends clean-room cell capabilities at its Prädifa plant
P
arker Hannifin, which specialises in motion and control technologies, has followed the establishment of an ultra-modern clean-room cell at its Parker-Prädifa plant based in Sadská, Czech Republic, with the extension of its capabilities, specifically designed to meet the exacting demands of the medical and pharmaceuticals industries. The central focus of the operations is on manufacturing custom products made from elastomers and plastic components developed at the firm’s plants in Pleidelsheim and Bietigheim, Germany. The 130-m2 GMP-
compliant cell currently consists of several clean rooms that meet ISO 7 to ISO 9 standards, and has been designed to enable quickand-easy extension of the facility as needed. A connection of manufacturing cells exclusively dedicated to custom products is also possible. The cell houses injection-moulding systems, used to process a wide range of materials, such as silicones (liquid silicone and high consistency rubber), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) and other elastomers. Also possible is the production of twocomponent designs – based on silicone and plastic or TPE and plastic combinations – under cleanroom class 8 conditions. A new micro-injection moulding machine in clean-room class 7 is available for manufacturing high-precision, particlefree moulded parts and seals as well as processing high-transparency liquid silicones. Over-moulding technology for single-use systems is available as an alternative to conventional cable ties. This technology primarily serves to combine silicone and TPE tubes with other plastic components, such as aseptic connectors, filters or transport containers, or various tubes with each other. Because of the lower risk of leakage, compared with cable ties, over-moulding is particularly well-suited to assembling products intended for use in critical process areas. In addition to conventional bonding or gluing, ultrasonic welding work is performed in a class 7 clean room. The significant advantages of this method are high reproducibility and the elimination of the need to use additives, which benefits the purity of the product. GIA releases report on polymeric polyols markets
A
recently published study by US-based Global Industry Analysts Inc (GIA), entitled ‘Polymeric Polyols: A Global Strategic Business Report’, reveals that the market worldwide for polymeric polyols is exhibiting rapid growth, backed by increasing demand for polyurethane across major end-use sectors such as the construction, automotive and refrigeration industries, amongst others. Polyols are important raw materials used in the production of polyurethane, coatings, thermoplastic elastomers, adhesives, sealants and medical devices. Developing countries supported by huge appetite for plastics represent primary consumers of polymeric polyols. Southeast Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe are registering robust growth because of the adoption of expansionary monetary policies for boosting domestic demand, says the company.
