Combination reduces cost of converting PET resin

Colormax has introduced a new Posimax additive feeder. Launched at K 2001, the company says that the Posimax is a new feeding mechanism for the addition of free flowing additives, such as colour masterbatch, into the process. Colormax adds that it uses a positive displacement channel feeding mechanism to control the flow of material by volume accurately into the process. This rotating channel technology has been used successfully in other industries for some time, explains the company. With rates between 2-200 litres/hour, the Colormax zinir has good turn clown and achieves this with good linearity over the full operating range. There are no screws or

Novatec says that it has combined the quick drying, energy saving characteristics of the NovaDrier T M with its CCR Continuous Crystallizer to convert PET resin into crystallized pellets ready for ready for immediate processing in a continuous mode. The company says that savings are provided to processors through reduced energy usage, minimal maintenance and Fasr, reliable dr)Ting times. Resin is conveyed into the Crystallizer, which consists of an insulated hopper with an internal agitator to prevent agglomeration. A high efficiency heater/blower combination maintains the required temperature for crystallization of amorphous resin. According to the company, crystallized PET pellets are systematically released by gravity flow directly into the NovaDrier to complete the closed loop drying process. Novatec adds that the dryer design has no regeneration heater, no desiccant and no moving parts - resulting in reduced energy costs. The only required maintenance is the

chambers. Therefore, there is no requirement to change these in order to reconfigure rates, as with traditional mechanisms, says Colormax. Using the principal known as lock-up, the Posimax achieves true mass flow and a highly uniform discharge. This means that the simple design has only one moving part and is easily disassembled for cleaning. The unit can either be a stand-alone single ingredient feeder, or a four station blender configuration in which it can be used volumetrically or as part of a MultiWeigh Blender. Ceramic rotor for Rieter Automatik, the manufacturer of strand pelletizers has introduced a new ceramic rotor. The company says that the tool has been developed for processing chemically aggressive plastics and offers a corrosion-resistant solution that can withstand the mechanical stress occurring during pelletizing for a significantly longer period. In comparison to stellite rotors, the company says that the new rotor offers up to four times longer life, depending on the application. The cutting edges of the blade are resistant to the

corrosion that occurs with plastics such as unextracted polyamide 6, polymers with a high titanium dioxide content or containing a high proportion of fillers, pigments, or coloured masterbatches. The company adds that the tough but flexible ceramic used in the rotor provides mechanical characteristics that are close to those found in a steel rotor.
