The hor se, a well-nouri shed chestnut g eldin g, hung hi s tongue o ut for abo ut 20 cm . on the right sid e. The ton g ue wa s ·of n orm al colour, and sensibl e to the touch . Saliva fl owe d copiously from the mo uth. Fold ing and sucki n g movement s we re perfomied by the tongue ; no s wellin g wa s pr esent. I twas no\\' soug ht to cause the ton g ue to be taken back into th e mout h. In order to produce strong r et raction s of the ton g ue salt " 'as rubbed in t he organ. Afte·r a long time it was drawn into the m outh , an d in o rder to r etain it t here a snaffle bit was put all . O n the fo ll owin g day the h or se ate as u sual. For t he origin of ,t hi s paralysis, I think I am ri g ht in blaming the g etting loo se of the horse. softens the impacted mass in the bowel. I expect' there will be a great many cases of impaction 0.£ the bowels this coming winter, on account of the bad hay harvest, so I am sure veterinary surgeons will find this instrument of great use. I have given it a good trial, and find that it works well in these ca.,es. \Ve all know that abdominal cases are abominable cases. The makers are Messrs.
