New micro feeder caters for low rates The K-Tron Feeder Group is introducing a new micro feeder. The company says that the Micro Feeder Model KT12 can accurately feed rates as low as 20 grams/hour and as high as 2000 grams/hour, depending on the material and installation environment. Both loss-in-
weight and volumetric feeder models will be available for continuous or batch operation. K-Tron adds that the compact feeder is designed for ease of disassembly, allowing fast and easy cleaning. The feeder design is said to allow the feeder bowl to
discharge almost completely when emptying, leaving minimal amounts of residual material. K-Tron adds that the KT12 can be configured for either standard industrial or sanitary pharmaceutical applications. Models meeting European ATEX and USA
Hazardous Area standards are planned. Contact: K-Tron Feeder Group Tel: +1 856 589 0500 Fax: +1 856 582 3937 E-mail:

German company secures PVC mixer contract
The Mixing Systems Division of German company Henschel Industrietechnik GmbH has secured its largest contract to date for 26 mixer combinations to the Chinese Dalian Shide Group for the production of PVC dry blend. Henschel adds that it has been supplying PVC mixers and complete material handling lines to Dalian Shide production sites since the start of the group's profile extrusion operations in 1995. Dalian Shide is one of the world's largest manufacturers of PVC
profiles for windows and doors. The current expansion will increase the annual mixing capacity from 480,000 tonnes to 1 million tonnes. The equipment will be forwarded to three customer sites at Chengdu (Sichuan Province in the south-west of China), Dalian (Liaoning Province in the north-east of China) and Shanghai. According to Henschel, each of the mixer combinations destined for Dalian Shide will provide a mixing capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year over an annual 7,200 hours. The

combinations consist of a Fluid Mixer FM 1000 with a self-cleaning Variant mixing tool carrying special protection for increased service life. In addition, there is a horizontal Cooling Mixer HM 3500, which co-operates with the heating mixer and is equipped with a mixing tool designed specifically for PVC to provide a gentle and effective cooling action. Henschel adds that there is an effective filter system that provides virtually dust-free production.
The company adds that the Siemens S7-based PLC control system of each mixer combination enables a fully automatic mixing process and manages the data exchange with the higher order plant architecture.
