Kynar PVDF fibers for tough environments MiniFIBERS is promoting its Kynar polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) multifilament and precision cut staple fibers into new markets. Traditionally, Kynar PVDF has been used for industrial environments which require total resistance to water, acids, oxidants, halogens, hydrocarbons, ozone, aromatic & aliphatic solvents. In addition, it is known for abrasion resistance, UV resistance, stain & odour resistance, and the ability to withstand gamma ray sterilization

techniques which are all growing needs for the textile and nonwoven industries. “The properties of Kynar PVDF allow access to an exceptionally broad range of new markets and opportunities for our company,” states Kerry Keith, President of MiniFibers. “The opportunities for this high performance polymer range from textiles to filtration to battery separators,” continues Keith. www.minifibers.com Mann+Hummel fuel prefilter PreLine 1201.
Bespoke energy saving filter than can be achieved using subtractive techniques. This is because, when manufactured conventionally, the holes in the perforated plate are at an angle to the filtrate flow, changing the flow characteristics and causing turbulence in the functionality of the filter. The Straightliner filter created using additive manufacturing.
Croft Additive Manufacturing has designed and produced a bespoke energy saving filter directly from 3D CAD data using metal 3D printing. The Straightliner filter offers a lower pressure drop and resistance
Using additive manufacturing to build the filter holes at the same angle as the flow allows, the filtrate to pass through the filter will have much less resistance, resulting in both energy and cost savings.
Fuel filters for diesel engine ships need to offer high performance in order to clean the fuel which is often highly contaminated by particles and water. The PreLine prefilter modular system is designed to increase filter performance, extend the service life of the main filter and protect the pre-feed pump and high pressure pump downstream. Mann+Hummel has developed a special, two-stage multigrade
filter medium which achieves a water separation efficiency of at least 93%. The filter consists of cellulose as a carrier medium and a layer of ultrafine meltblown fibres, this offers a higher filter fineness and more effective protection. In the first stage, the filter enlarges many small emulsified droplets contained in the fuel and then separates these from the diesel in the second stage through a hydrophobic surface. The PreLine also separates course dirt particles and extends the service life of the engine. www.mann-hummel.com

Halogen moisture analyzer provides reliable results The analytical instrument specialist Mettler Toledo has launched a HE53 halogen moisture analyzer to provide reliable moisture results in just a few minutes, giving companies maximum control over their manufacturing processes and optimum product quality. The HE53 has been designed to make it easy for even untrained operators to use. The price tag means smaller companies, that often feel they don’t have the financial resources to invest in high-end

moisture analysis equipment, no longer need to forego moisture testing. “We have years of moisture analysis expertise to draw upon, but the real challenge was to strip that back to just the basic functionality that customers need, at a price that everyone can afford, without compromising our high standards for quality,” stated Claas Boerger, Mettler Toledo Product Manager. www.uk.mt.com/gb/en/home
New product possibilities for Eastman Cyphrex microfibers The highly uniform flat PET fiber is a new addition to the Cyphrex microfibers portfolio. This fiber, with its novel cross section, enables functional benefits such as uniformity, lightweight strength and improved processability compared with other synthetic microfibers. Flat PET Cyphrex fibers are less than 0.4 denier in size. The flat PET Eastman Cyphrex microfiber provides greater lightweight strength in nonwoven media and is designed to greatly improve nonwovens formation and sheet uniformity.
“In just over a year since launching, we have begun to build a complementary set of Cyphrex microfibers for wetlaid nonwovens manufacturers,” said Fred Dulin, Eastman microfibers platform director. “By offering round and flat fibers – in addition to the various sizes of Cyphrex – nonwovens producers can more precisely manufacture media to fit their customers’ needs, giving them an advantage in formulation capability.” www.eastmancyphrex.com
