Shaft seal tester provides digital readout The Digital Static Tester (DST) introduced by the Stein Seal Company is designed to measure the leakage rate of a seal, or other component, quickly and accurately. It can be used on either new or refurbished seals, and can be used to test the flow of any system’s seal regardless of seal type or size. Consistent and repeatable results are obtained by precisely applying air pressure to a seal placed within a specially designed fixture. The DST provides data in real time and utilizes actual temperature, absolute pressure and volumetric flow rate, and is calibrated to the specific gas being used with 16 preprogrammed gas types. The system software indicates the mass flow

rate corrected to the selected units on a digital display. An RS-232 port allows the test data to be directly downloaded to a computer. The instrument requires a fixture that is specific to the component being tested. The company will manufacture specifically for a customer application for any seal type. New range of hydraulic oils is introduced Shell Lubricants companies have announced changes to existing product ranges and a new metalfree oil. A new generation of Tellus T is now available and a new Tellus STX will also be available alongside Tellus TX and Tellus Arctic. These oils are available worldwide to allow users to chose from a full range of hydraulic oil applications, in a wider range of operating conditions and environments. Tellus T is formulated on the next generation technology of Shell Tellus, and is suitable for most machinery and the majority

of conditions. The new Tellus STX is designed for operators demanding a metal-free lubricant or when conditions are more extreme. Contact: Shell Lubricants, Rowlandsway House, Rowlandsway, Manchester M22 5SB, UK. Tel: +44 161 499 4000, Web: www.shell. com/home/Framework?siteId=uk-en

Editor’s comment: This item on new oils is included at least in part as a reminder that where there are new oils, and presumably new additive packages, there are potential elastomer compatibility problems.
