S t r u m and development of ~ l n o i d populations (Crnstacea, Copepoda) in the upwelling regions off north and south West Africa. Beitr. Meeresk., 52:3-33.
More than 150 zooplankton samples are used to describe the structures of typical calanoid communities; special attention is paid to finding features typifying the colonization of different water types. Correlations between abiotic and biotic factors are used to draw conclusions regarding calanoid population development and corresponding developmental series are established. Biomass of the calanoids can increase 20-fold as a result of upwelling, the maximum value calculated being 750 mg/m 3.
