data corruption along a network from the single faulty server. H-P commented that noone has reported this happening so far and that the affected servers are low-range to mid-range products that are typically used to store data for a single department and not an entire company.

New software tool that checks BS7799 status A new software tool has been designed to help companies assess their status against BS7799, a UK code of practice for information security management. COP-iT developed by SMH Associates plc is a new Windows based package which aims to provide a method for companies to evaluate their security status in line with BS7799. It claims to enable you to interpret the relevant aspects of BS7799, providing management direction and support for information security. It is designed as an automated questionnaire and reporting system in which applicable sections can be selected to tailor the review to individual company requirements including: security policy; security organization; assets classification and control; personnel security; physical and environmental security; computer and network management; system access control; system development and maintenance; business continuity planning: and compliance. The package requires a 486 or higher processor, 8Mb RAM and 15Mb hard disk space and supports the current releases of leading Windows based word processing packages: MS Word 6, WordPerfect 6 and AmiPro 3.1 and above.
