Processing aid introduced polyolefin
film extrusion
Atofina has developed a fluorinated copolymer, Kynar Flex@ PPA, for use as a processing aid for the extrusion of polyolefins. These include linear low density polyethylene, high density polyethylene and polypropylene, in particular as films. The company adds that Kynar Flex@ PPA is added in low concentrations of around 0.02-0.08%, to help increase processing speed, while reducing energy consumption, processing temperatures and pressure. It is also claimed to help prevent blockages in
equipment and in particular prevents the formation of drops and knots on converting lines. In the finished product, Atofina says that Kynar Flex PPA enhances the film’s transparency and mechanical properties and eliminates ‘sharkskin’ surface defects and melt fracture. Kynar Flex WA is also suitable for pipe and cable sheathing manufacture. Contact: Atojina Tel: +33 149 00 70 29 Fax: +33 149 00 52 67
New technique for laser marking thermoplastics
Bayer adds to range of blowing agents
Chroma Corporation has introduced Chroma Lazer-Tee, a product that when used with CO,, DOT Matrix or Yag laser marking equipment will allow for the marking of olefins, engineering grade and styrenic resins. The company says Chroma Lazer-Tee can he purchased as an additive package or used as a multifunctional product that delivers colour and rhe additive package simultaneously during the manufacturing of the plastic part. The packaging industry has shown a parricular interest in
laser marking and how it provides a clean, consistent, legible mark. The company says that the product has been specifically formulated to creare a contrasting mark and has been successful in marking polypropylene that is typically difficult to mark with conventional laser marking. The system can be used for decoration to enhance package labeling or for marking date codes. Contact: Chroma Corporation Tel: + I 815 385 8100 Fnx: +I 815385 1518
Environmental
success
The manufacturing sites in the United States and the United Kingdom of Akcros Chemicals have both received IS0 14001
for environmental management systems. The two sites produce a range of key additives for the PVC manufacturing industry.

Bayer has added a new product to its range of chemical blowing agents. Porofor@ ADC/Z-C2 is a azodicarboxylic acid diamide chemical blowing agent rhar was previously known as trial product Porofor TP KA 9 173. The company says that the product is particularly suitable for conrinuous foaming of peroxide-crosslinked polyethylene. The blowing agent can produce a white surface with a low yellowness index in the production of lightweight foams in the recommended application.

Bayer adds that the product enables cycle time to be reduced. Fine-pore foams with lower densities can be produced ar normal oven temperatures with shorter residence times than is possible with standard azodicarboxylic acid diamides. The blowing agent can also produce lower fogging values.
