N E X T M E E T I N G OF TH E SOCIETY T h e next meeting of the Society will be T h e A n n u a l G e n e r a l M e e t i n g , at Manson House, on Thursday, 15th J u n e , 1961, at 7.30 p.m. An Ordinary Meeting will follow. Fellows who wish to read papers at Meetings of the Society are asked to let the Honorary Secretaries know several months ahead. T h e programme must be made up well in advance and it is necessary for the Council to be informed at the earliest possible moment so that Fellows who wish to present important material may not be disappointed.

N O T I C E OF PROPOSED A M E N D M E N T S TO LAWS Law 4. Line 8. Delete from " Each " to " Year Book." Law 8. (2) Delete the final sentence. Law 14. Line 8. Delete from " and shall present," to " all receipts ; and . . ." Line 19. Delete " He shall report to the Council the name of any Fellow whose subscription is a year or more in arrear." Law 17. Delete the last sentence - - " T h e Honorary Secretaries shall be responsible for editing the Transactions, Year Book and other publications of the Society." Law 27. T h e second sentence to be re-worded, as follows : - " If such sum remain unpaid on 31st March, the close of the financial year, the Transactions and other publications of the Society shall no longer be sent to him, and if it be still unpaid at the end of the third financial year, provided that he has been duly warned, his name shall be removed from the Register of Fellows. If, however, at any time during the period . . ." etc. Law 37. Delete section (v).

These alterations have become necessary either because the Laws in questions have been superseded by later enactments, or because they are now unworkable through the great increase in the number of Fellows.

MANSON ORATION T o perpetuate the memory of the late Sir PATRICKMANSON, the Council of the Society has decided to establish a Fund, to which subscriptions are invited. It is hoped to raise a sum of at least £2,500, the accumulated interest from which will be devoted to financing a Manson Oration. T h e Oration will deal with some aspect of tropical medicine or hygiene and will be given periodically by a recognised authority. T h e lecturer and the subject on which he will be invited to speak will be decided by the Council of the Society. T h e Manson Oration will be open to all members of the medical profession and will be advertised in the general medical press, in which it may be subsequently published.

The Eighth Congress of the European Society of Haematology will be held in Vienna from 28th August to 2nd September, 1961. Particulars may be obtained from the General Secretary, Prof. Dr. H. Fleischhacker, Frankgasse 8, Wien IX, Austria.

ADMISSION TO FELLOWSHIP OF THE SOCIETY All registered medical and veterinary practitioners and others interested in scientific pursuits relating to tropical medicine, whose qualifications are deemed satisfactory by the Council, are eligible for election as Fellows of the Society. Anyone desiring to become a candidate for Fellowship of the Society should use the special form of application enclosed with this Journal. The annual subscription payable by Fellows is two pounds ten shillings (£2 10s. 0d.), which becomes due in advance on the 1st April of each year. The TRANSACTIONSand the current YEARBOOKof the society are posted regularly to every Fellow whose subscription is not in arrear. Further information may be obtained from the Hon. Secretaries, Manson House, 26 Portland Place, London, W.1. ; or from the Local Secretary of the district.

NOTICE TO FELLOWS As a copy of each n u m b e r of the TRANSACTIONSis posted to every Fellow whose subscription is not in arrear, Fellows are particularly requested to notify the Secretaries of any change in the address to which their TRANSACTIONSare to be posted. When copies of the TRANSACTIONSare returned by the Post Office marked " Gone Away," " No Service," or " Insufficient Address," no more copies will be posted to that address, but they will be retained at Manson House, until further instructions are received.

COPYING SERVICE Fo help fellows of the SocieW who cannot readily obtain access to medical periodicals and journals, we have purchased a photo-copying machine and are able to supply copies of papers required. By courtesy of the Dean and Council of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, the Library of the School has been placed at our disposal for this purpose. We have also access to certain other libraries, but cannot guarantee to get copies of papers from the less known journals, though every effort will be made to do so. Fellows will be asked to pay only the actual cost of preparing the copy. ls. per page copied (size 6½ x 11½).

Complete papers or specified portion of a paper can be supplied, but in the latter case lucid instructions must be given. To comply with the Copyright Act, it is e s s e n t i a l that orders be m a d e out i n the m a n n e r d e s c r i b e d below. T h e new Copyright Act 1956 came into force in June 1957, and it will therefore be necessary for a Declaration to be made and signed, on the following lines : 1.
