This report deals with the processes and effects of pollution. It discusses the environmental behaviour of pollutants, gives a statistical analysis of dose-effect relationships and deals in detail with a series of ecotoxicological problems with regard to terrestrial and aquatic animals, plants, plankton and micro-organisms. There is a valuable summary article on 'Ecosystem Response to Pollution'.

These two volumes contain the papers given at the two conferences, held in 1975 and 1977, on the Environmental Impact of Water Chlorination. The conferences were sponsored by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Energy Research and Development Agency and the US Environmental Protection Agency. The two volumes give a comprehensive picture of the subject, with an emphasis on current research. Possible alternatives to chlorine are considered.
