Lint-Free Surgical Sponge. The EENT Division of Edward Week & Co. is now marketing a new surgical sponge, Week-Cel, which is free of lint, does not shred, and is capable of rapidly absorbing up to twenty times its volume in liquid. Produced of hydrocellulose material, the surgical sponge has special application for delicate eye surgery where lint left in the eye can be a hazard. It is far superior to cotton sponges or swabs used in eye surgery. Week-Cel is produced sterile in peel-pak envelopes containing two small spear points and six strips. For further information inquiries should be addressed to EENT Division, Edward Week & Co., 973 Lexington Avenue, New York, New York 1002 1. l

Nerve Stimulator for Use during Surgery. WR Medical Electronics Co. has introduced a Surgical Nerve Stimulator that delivers precisely controlled stimulating current to facilitate nerve identification in surgery, to determine proximity of nerves underlying other tissue, to evaluate nerve response, and to test muscle function in corrective and reconstructive surgery. Of particular importance, the WR Surgical Nerve Stimulator provides precise current control. Since nerve response to electrical stimulation is a function of current through the nerve rather than of applied voltage, precise control of the stimulating current is essential for quantitative evaluation of nerve response and for determining the proximity of a nerve by the current intensity required to evoke muscle response. The device automatically compensates for changes in external circuit resistance, as in going from a wet to a dry field. This enables it to deliver a constant current at any given setting of the current control dial, regardless of changes in external circuit resistance. The WR Surgical Nerve Stimulator is easy to operate, battery-powered, compact, portable, and incorporates reliable transistor circuitry. The complete unit is priced at $250.00. Additional information on the WR Surgical Nerve Stimulator may be obtained by writing to WR Medical Electronics Co., 2488 University Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota 55114.

Each tablet contains 0.5 Gm sulfarnethoxazole and 100 mg phenazopyr&ne HCl. Before prescribing, please consult complete product information, a summary of which follows: Contraindicated in sulfonamide-sensitive patients, pregnant females at term, premature irifants, newborn infants during the first three months of life, glomerular nephritis, severe hepatitis, uremia and pyelonephritis of pregnancy with gastrointestinal disturbances. Warnings: Use only after critical appraisal in patients with liver damage, renal damage, urinary obstruction or blood dyscrasias. If toxic or hypersensitivity reactions or blood dyscrasias occur, discontinue therapy. In intermittent or prolonged therapy, blood counts and liver and kidney function tests should be performed. Precautions: Observe usual sulfonamide therapy precautions including maintenance of an adequate fluid intake. Use with caution in patients with histories of allergies and/ or asthma. Patients with impaired renal function should be followed closely since renal impairment may cause excessive drug accumulation. Occasional failures may occur due to resistant microorganisms. Not effective in virus and rickettsial infections. Adverse reactions: Headache, nausea, vomiting, urticaria, diarrhea, hepatitis, pancreatitis, blood dyscrasias, neuropathy, drug fever, skin rash, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, injection of the conjunctiva and sclera, petechiae, purpura, hematuria or crystalluria may occur, in which case the dosage should be decreased or the drug withdrawn.
