Composites UK Innovation Awards 2012. The awards celebrate innovations in composite materials, design, and manufacturing. Bac2 entered its CSR family of latent acid catalysts for the award. Originally developed for use with the company’s ElectroPhen electrically conductive polymer resin, the CSR family of catalysts has since been expanded to include formulations that retard and control the curing of phenolformaldehyde resoles, furan resins, and urea and melamine formaldehyde resins.
production process technology licenses and related services. For 3Q 2012 the segment posted EBITDA of $48 M and operating income of $31 M. This compares with EBITDA of $49 M and operating income of $30 M in 2Q 2012 and EBITDA of $45 M and operating income of $7 M in 3Q 2011.

Oxford Catalysts has announced the signature of a service agreement with Mourik LP to provide catalyst handling services for the group’s commercial Fischer-Tropsch (FT) reactors. The replacement of spent with fresh catalyst every 2-5 years is required for all FT technologies. Mourik has been working closely with the group for over a year to qualify procedures for loading and unloading catalyst from the Group’s commercial FT reactors to be deployed in modular plants. Catalyst replacement (loading and unloading), activation, and regeneration of the Group’s FT units is quicker and/or easier than with competing FT technologies, thereby simplifying logistics and enabling improved asset utilisation. Headquartered in The Netherlands, The Mourik group is a global leader in catalyst handling with a turnover of €415 M (2011) and offices in Europe, N and S America, Asia and the Middle East.
Clariant Group inks partnership pact with Emerald Technology Clariant Group, Switzerland, and Emerald Technology ventures are collaborating to find out new avenues to invest and carry out innovation in the cleantech sector that consists of new catalysts to increase process efficiencies, advanced materials for reducing energy consumption, and new energy storage - all making use of renewable feedstocks. Carbon Trust invests in Ilika to develop new Pt-free catalyst Ilika plc is receiving an investment of £150,000 ($240,000) from the Carbon Trust to fund the commercialization of the company’s novel platinum-free electrocatalysts for use in fuel cell electric cars. The catalyst developed by Ilika has the potential to be 70% cheaper, in terms of costs/ performance, than the existing standard for fuel cell catalysts. The investment is part of the Carbon Trust’s Polymer Fuel Cells Challenge, which aims to develop cheaper fuel cells. Novozymes strategic collaboration with Gruppo Mossi & Ghisolfi Novozymes has begun a strategic collaboration with Gruppo Mossi & Ghisolfi for second generation ethanol production. Novozymes will pay $115 M for a 10% share in Beta Renewables for which Novozymes will be the preferred supplier of enzymes. Collaboration with a customer represents a strategic shift for Novozymes. Dutch competitor DSM has already entered into a jv with Novozymes’ customer Poet that gave
DSM ownership in the Liberty Project, which will lead to a 2nd generation ethanol production plant. In addition Dupont has acquired Danisco that produces enzymes for bioethanol production. Novozymes’ enzymes the perfect match for laundry in China Enormous quantities of energy and water are required for China’s 1.3 bn people to wash their clothes, and large volumes of wastewater are discharged. As well as serving a large population, the Chinese detergent market is characterized by some very special conditions. The number of washing machines in China is growing rapidly and will reach household penetration of 89% in 2020. However, many Chinese people still prefer the traditional method of washing by hand. In fact, more than 50% of all laundry in China is still done by hand. Novozymes has developed an enzymatic solution to meet the uniquely Chinese challenge of concerns about environmental impact combined with the tradition of handwashing. “Novozymes has developed a range of enzymes optimized for detergents and used them to provide Chinese consumers with optimal results for laundry done in a washing machine or by hand,” said Per Falholt, Chief Science Officer at Novozymes, during his speech at the AOCS conference in Singapore. These multi-enzyme solutions consist of up to eight different enzymes and can deliver the performance that consumers want in a shorter time, with less mechanical action and at lower temperatures. In addition, replacing surfactants with enzymes has a positive impact on CO2 emissions and water quality.
