Kruger secures Hydrotech Discfilter order Kruger Inc is to supply a 3.9 MGD Hydrotech Discfilter system for a wastewater treatment plant improvement project in Princeton, Minnesota engineered by SEH. Two Hydrotech Discfilter units will be installed to provide tertiary filtration in order to meet stringent effluent
total phosphorus limitations prior to discharge to the Rum river. The new Discfilter system is expected to be operational in autumn 2012. Kruger is a Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies company. www.krugerusa.com
Veolia delivers produced water treatment system for Canadian oil sands project A Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) produced water treatment system is currently being installed at Southern Pacific’s STP-McKay project in Northern Alberta, Canada. The system consists of deoiling equipment and an evaporation system that will treat produced water from the 12 000 bbl/d
operation. The evaporation system has been supplied as modular units to facilitate site installation. The evaporator and crystallizer vessels were shipped entirely built up and were placed on site in the fourth quarter of 2011. Pumps, heat exchangers and other ancillary equipment are also modularised as ‘plug and play’ components. www.veoliawaterst.com
US filter market worth more than US$12bn in 2015 Demand for filters in the US is expected to increase 7.1% per year to US$12.6 billion in 2015. Filters, a new study from The Freedonia Group Inc, says this growth reflects improved manufacturing activity and industrial investment, a recovery in motor vehicle production and sales, and a rebound in consumer spending from a low 2010 base. Stricter environmental regulations particularly those involving reduced emissions from electric utilities and diesel engines, and better water quality - will also
drive growth. Additionally, Freedonia expects heightened concerns about water and indoor air quality to boost demand for filters in the consumer market. Ongoing sales in the aftermarket will also drive gains. However, growth in the aftermarket will be offset somewhat by users’ tendency to replace filters less often than recommended by manufacturers. Longer lasting media or other technologies that extend filter life will also restrain sales. www.freedoniagroup.com
