Obituary Dr. Eduardo Ruiz At the time of his death, he was Secretary of the Iberoamerican Society of Pediatric Urology (SIUP). Amongst many other accomplishments, Dr. Ruiz was President of the Argentine Society of Pediatric Surgery (ACACI) in 2010, and was part of the Scientific Committee of the World Congress of Pediatric Surgery in 2007 and also of the World Congress of Pediatric Urology in 2010. His dedication to his job was unprecedented, and since that time and until his death he achieved extensive accomplishments in his field through research, clinical practice, and education activities. He was a great teacher and he trained many pediatric urologists from Argentina and Latin America. Eduardo was one of the leaders of Pediatric Urology in Latin America. He published many papers and editorials in journals, authored several book chapters, and was invited to participate in many lectureships, symposia, or educational talks and presentations both across Latin America and around the world. He was a wonderful caring person, an honest good friend, and very family oriented. While he was doing his residency he met and married Ines, and they had three children, Mariano, Javier and Sol, all of whom have successful professional careers. Dr. Ruiz’s friendship, leadership and expertise will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Our dear friend and colleague Dr. Eduardo Ruiz passed away on June 8, 2011. Eduardo was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on September 15, 1956. After receiving his medical degree from Universidad de Medicina de Buenos Aires, he completed his Pediatric Surgery residency at Ricardo Gutierrez Children Hospital, in Buenos Aires. Very soon during his training he realized that his real passion was Pediatric Urology, and began to work with Dr. J.C. Puigdevall who became his mentor, role model and close friend. Seeking further training, he rotated with Dr. J.M. Garat in Barcelona, Spain and with Dr. R. Gonzalez in the University of Minnesota, USA. Since 1984 he was Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology at Hospital Italiano, Buenos Aires. In 2003, Dr. Ruiz became Chairman of the Department of Pediatric Surgery and his long-time collaborator Dr. F. de Badiola was named Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology. 1477-5131/$36 doi:10.1016/j.jpurol.2011.08.002
