Of excellence and quality Welcome to the 41st volume of the Journal of Dentistry. Following a busy 2012, I write to express my thanks to our readers and authors for their valuable support and contributions over the past year. Journal of Dentistry continually improves itself and grows in international standing. However, the Journal would not survive without its readers, authors and reviewers. The Journal’s success is a reflection of your efforts. As Editor-in-Chief I extend my sincere and personal thanks to you all. 2012 has been an important year for Journal of Dentistry: our Impact Factor has increased to 2.947 and we are now ranked 6/81 in the category Dentistry, Oral Surgery and Medicine. Our number of new manuscript submissions remains strong: in excess of 900 new submissions were received in 2012. However, with our improved standing comes increased responsibility to publish high quality and clinically relevant research. In 2012, we published 164 articles including 24 articles in our supplement issues, ‘Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry’. We have increased our focus on applied clinical research. Dental materials research remains a mainstay of our publication; however we have to ensure that we publish high quality dental materials research. Manuscripts based solely on ‘traditional’ tests such as microleakage or tensile bond testing are no longer considered and are rejected without review. Translational research is a growing area within the Journal, however as in other subject areas, the emphasis must remain on novelty and quality. Our collaboration with the Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry goes from strength to strength. We now publish two regular supplement issues of Journal of Dentistry
per year, appearing under the title of the Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry. This year there were 24 articles in Journal of Color and Appearance in Dentistry, which has established itself as the leading publication in this increasingly relevant and important aspect of dental research. Special thanks go to Dr Rade Paravina, who serves as Editor of these supplement issues and for his leadership in this area. We thank our Publisher at Elsevier for their continued support of Journal of Dentistry. In particular we thank Jane Ryley and Danita Jackson. We also thank our Editorial Office and Journal Manager, Matt Walmsley. I would like to thank my Editorial team, including Associate Editors and Board Members for their continued support. What lies in store for 2013? What is our vision? That Journal of Dentistry will publish research of the highest quality with the potential to impact on dental practice on an international setting. We should be proud of the research and articles published in each issue of 2013. Journal of Dentistry is the leading international journal in the field of Restorative Dentistry. We look forward to receiving novel submissions from our authors – please send us your articles that have the potential to inform, stimulate and change the global practice of dentistry for the better.
