Minima of Higgs Potenlials Corresponding to Nonmaximal Isotropy Subgroups. M. ABUD. G. ANASTAZE. P. ECKERT, AND H. RUEGG. Departement de Physique Theorique, Universite de Geneve, 1211 Geneve 4. Switzerland. Results of the minimization of the Higgs potential for the irreducible representation 75 of ScI(5) are presented. Isotropy groups of minima are determined using a geometrical method, developed recently by Abud and Sartori. Minima with the maximal isotropy algebras su(3) +su(2) + u(l), sp(4) + u( l), su(2) + su(2) + u( 1). and su(2) are found, as well as a minimum with a nonmaximal isotropy algebra su(2) +su(2) + u(1) + u( 1) and discrete symmetry. Also a minimum is found having a nonmaximal isotropy group SC/( 2) @ CI( 1) 0 CI( 1 ), contrary to Michel’s conjecture. A detailed analysis of our results is presented and the limits of Michel’s conjecture are pointed out.

O(N) symmetric threedimensional (9’)’ theory is studied in the l/N expansion, using quantum field theory techniques. An effective action containing the composite operator $’ is used. It is shown to be renormahzable in each order of the l/N expansion. The first two orders are considered. A vacuum instability. as well as logarithmic corrections to scaling relations at the tricritical point are discussed.

Universal Bose-Fermi Mass-Relations in Ku&a-Klein Supergravity and Harmonic Anal.vsis on Coset Man(folds wilh Killing Spinors. R. D’AURIA. Istituto di Fisica Teorica, Universita di Torino, I.N.F.N., Sezione di Torino, Turin, Italy; AND P. FRY CERN, Geneva, Switzerland. Universal mass-relations between Bose and Fermi modes are obtained via general relations existing among the spectra of invariant operators on coset manifolds with Killing spinors. In particular zeromodes for pseudoscalars, spinors. and Lichnerowitz scalars are always related to the isometry and cohomology properties of the manifold. The structure of the 4-dimensional supersymmetry rules on physical modes is given. Furthermore, the harmonics of the possible massless multiplets, namely the gravitational multiplet, the Killing gauge multiplet, and the Betti gauge multiplet, are exhibited for general manifolds. Comments on matter and quasi-massless multiplets conclude the paper.

Free massless scalar and Dirac tields are quantized in ‘-dimensional Minkowski space in a representation in which the energy operator for a uniformly accelerating observer is diagonalized. The usual vacuum, and many other pure states, appear to be thermally excited in this representation. The crucial role of PCT symmetry, as regards the general validity of this conclusion, is illustrated.
