Radioactive labeled aerosol models are very useful in the ex perimental physics and chemistry of aerosols,as they are in biological aerosology.Different methods can be used in the preparation of radioactively labeled aerosols. Preparation by means of decay products of radon and thoron,la beling by means of radioactive gases inhigh-frequency discharge at low pressure,preparation by means of radioactively labeled elements and compounds,preparation by means of radioactively labeled condensation nuclei,etc. are the most important methods for practical and laboratory purposes. The first procedure,which is accomplished in the atmosphere and can be easily used in the laboratory,is the ra-labeling of aerosol particles b means of decay products of radon and thoFig.1 Y .The use of a high-frequencydischarge in a ron(see also gas mixture of radon is an other method for the preparation of ra-labeled aerosols. Nevertheless,the ra-labeling by means of ra-labeled elements and compounds is the method of choice.It had found very broad applications in different fields of the experimental aerosol research. By dispersion,condensation and combustion of ra-labeled inorganic and organic compounds,ra-labeled aerosols of desirable parameters(particle size, shape and concentration)can be prepared and used.In Fig.1 the principle for the preparation of ralabeled ( by C-14) soot aerosol is illustrated.It is an example for the preparation of ra-labeled combustion aerosol.Acetylene mixed with diluted ra-labeled lbenzene is introduced in a special burner. Further broad applications have found the "heated-wire aerosol Ra-labeled metallic wires are electrically heated. generators". Fine and very fine ra-labeled aerosols arethenproduced by evaporation and concensation processes. BY means of this type of generators ra-labeled aerosols in the nano-meter size range can be produced. s1249

The preparation of ra-Labeled condensation aerosols of organic substances by means of radioactively labeled condensation nu clei is a useful method too. Good results can be obtained with radioactively labeled nuclei of NaCL,Se,phosphoric acid,etc.Sebacid acid,dioctyl sebacate, dioctyl phthalate and .dibutyL phthalate are suitable substancondensation aerosols.Aeroces for the generation of organic SOL generators of the Sinclai-LaMer types are suitable for the preparation of such ra-labeled aerosols.
