productnews High filtration area membrane filters available in European market Minntech BV, part of the Minntech Filtration Technologies Group, has recently launched its FiberFlo® hollow fibre cartridge and capsule filters in Europe. Both membrane filter types incorporate a self-wetting Polyphen® (polysulphone) asymmetrical membrane to achieve microfiltration rates from 0.45 micron down to 0.05 micron. The pore size of the membrane has been defined using a latex bead challenge, meaning that the Fiberflo filters are rated as absolute filters, according to the claimed pore size. Both filter types are designed to remove endotoxins, pyrogens, bacteria and spores, which make them ideal for water purification and process liquid applications in the medical, pharmaceutical and microelectronic industries. The capsule filter is available in a variety of sizes, with surface filtration areas ranging from 550 cm2 to 5500 cm2. They can be configured either for crossflow or dead end modes of operation. The Fiberflo cartridges can be specified in 25 cm, 50 cm, 76 cm or 101 cm lengths, with an effective filtration area of 1.5 m2 per 25 cm. Operational temperatures up to 85 °C is achievable for both filter types, with a maximum ∆P of 2 bar.

TESTING LIQUID FILTERS COMPLETELY INDEPENDENT TEST LABORATORY TESTS OF ALL FILTERS : Hydraulic, lubricant, fuel, water and other industrial fluids

The patented hollow fibre technology is said to produce an effective filtration area (EFA) that is up to three times greater than a similarly rated pleated cartridge filter and up to six times that of a comparable pleated capsule filter. The Arbocel® product range of organic filter media are being introduced to the UK and Irish markets by Allchem International Ltd. They are intended as an alternative to diatomaceous earth (DE) or perlite filter media products. Arbocel filter media are made from a naturally occurring fibre sourced from decaying wood or newspapers. According to the company, the organic source material is sustainable, unlike mineral-based filter media such as DE, which is derived from the fossilized remains of marine algae. The Arbocel products are milled to produce varied particle forms, from cubic structures to long strands, giving it the flexibility to be utilized in filtration cartridges, sheets and other filtration products. The main target market for Arbocel media is the metal cutting industry, specifically metal forming applications, such as aluminium or steel rolling, and metal finishing applications, such as tool manufacturing.
