Companies explore opportunities in Nigeria’s water sector
S
ingapore’s Hyflux Ltd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Hyflux International Pte Ltd (HIPL), has signed a joint-venture agreement with Tolaram Corp Pte Ltd to explore opportunities for the development of membrane-based water treatment plants in Nigeria. As part of this agreement a Singapore-registered company called Yewa Water Co Pte Ltd has been established. HIPL and Tolaram hold equal equity stakes in this company. Yewa Water Co Pte Ltd, in turn, owns the majority stake in Yewa Water Co Ltd, a firm incorporated in Nigeria that will undertake water projects in the country. Tolaram is a Singapore-based multi-industry company engaged in food, paper and packaging, textiles, energy, logistics and real estate businesses. Osmoflo gears up to help industry reuse its water
A
ustralian desalination company Osmoflo Pty Ltd has formed a wastewater business in response to increasing demand from industry at large and the utilities sector for efficient treatment systems that maximise the potential for reusing water. The company, which designs, constructs, commissions and operates reverse osmosis (RO) treatment plants that deliver reclaimed water, says the new business offers the full range of wastewater treatment systems in addition to membrane-based technologies. Flexibility extends to contract options that include engineering pro-
curement and construction (EPC), design build operate and maintain (DBOM), build own operate (BOO), rental and commercial lease. Osmoflo’s wastewater business is based at the company’s manufacturing facility in Burton, South Australia, with technical representatives located at the firm’s offices throughout Australia. The head of the business Jamie Roodenrys joined Osmoflo in 2012 and has more than 20 years of experience in local government, asset management, and water and wastewater, including seven years in the Middle East participating in the delivery of major wastewater projects. ‘Osmoflo has wide Australian and international experience in providing plants enabling the reuse or the discharge of treated water in full compliance with regulatory standards. However, the new business signifies a dedicated approach, within the company, to wastewater management – one that we believe industry has come to expect from providers of water solutions,’ commented Roodenrys. ‘Demand for reuse is being driven by growing community and industry expectations relating to sustainable, cost-effective and reliable wastewater treatment, coupled with the implementation of increasingly stringent regulatory standards, particularly relating to environmental discharge. These factors are bringing about a renewed focus on all aspects of wastewater treatment and recycling.’ Contact: Osmoflo Pty Ltd, 382 Diment Road, Burton, 5110, South Australia, Australia.
