A Family Talks about Being Healthy, 1985. From Perennial Education, Inc., 930 Pitner Ave., Evanston, IL 60202,24 min., 16 mm, 112" or 3/4" videocassette, $425, $45 rental. With mounting evidence about the impact of lifestyle on health and risk for chronic disease, it makes sense to begin educating young people about the connection, especially since current research shows that many teenagers are not adopting the kinds of health-promoting behaviors that would help protect them in the future. This film guides students through the basic steps of changing behavior utilizing a case-study approach. The topic is timely: In response to a health class assignment to choose and implement a healthier behavior, the main character decides to reduce his fat intake. He sets a measurable goal (to eat low-fat foods 8 times in the next week), keeps track of his progress, and enlists the support of his entire family. All family members then get involved in setting their own health goals. Both the main character and his sister are able to deal with strong peer pressure that promotes unhealthy habits, and to find alternatives including developing new friends who will support the changes. This is an entertaining and positive film with a strong message for students-' 'I can make changes and choices for myself." S.A.B.
