Over 1,000 OR nurses attend World Conference OR nurses from 37 countries came to the First World Conference of Operating Room Nurses-exactly 1,127 of them. They listened, they talked, they studied the exhibits, and they danced together at the fellowship night. The conference was held in Manila, the Philippines, from Oct 17 to 20. At the opening session, Philippine President Ferdinand E Marcos gave the keynote address. He told the nurses he was addressing them to “give notice to the import I relateto this conference.” He commented that because of combat injuries he would not be walking around except for the help of nurses and others. “This is by way of thank you to you all,” he said. He called the conference a milestone in the professional development and organization of OR nurses around the world. The most important decision made at the

conference was that there will be a second world conference. Through informal discussions with conference attendees, AORN leaders believed there was a need for a future meeting. At the Thursday forum, AORN President Jean Davis proposed that a world conference be held every two years. Later, in a meeting of representatives from the countries present, the plan for another conference was confirmed. The conference will be sponsored by AORN and will probably be held in Europe in the fall of 1980. A full report of the World Conference will appear in the January Journal.
