Akzo Nobel moves Akzo Nobel will transfer its North American Powder Coatings headquarters and technical laboratories to Nashville, TN, USA in 2007. A workforce of 50 will be added to the Nashville site, which now has a workforce of roughly 125. Another 10,000 sq ft of office space will be added to the existing plant. This can be observed from DuPont’s recent activities in the coatings segment, which included securing full control of a major joint venture in the Turkish industrial coatings sector; creating a jv with an automotive coatings firm in Russia; and the announcement of plans to put onstream a Chinese titanium dioxide plant in 2010. Rohm and Haas also emphasized the strong prospects of Central and Eastern Europe, with the company initiating moves to divest its automotive coatings business to Nippon Paint. Consolidation, considered an important trend because of its effect on regional company growth and technology transfer, is also being observed among

Russia is a major emerging market for both Turkish and Finnish paint manufacturers. Turkey is also considered an important growth area, with its paint market projected to climb about 11%/y in the coming years.
