Maintaining Cartilage in Good Times and in Bad The four chapters that follow deal with how various cartilages under various conditions maintain themselves. The four major topics are (i) how cartilages are maintained under normal conditions (Chapter 26); (ii) how cartilage is maintained in chondrodysplasia/achondroplasia (Chapter 27) although such syndromes are abnormal, cartilages are maintained within limits that can be related to the cause of the defect; (iii) how proliferation can be reinitiated in the nondividing chondrocytes of articular cartilage (Chapter 28) and (iv) whether growth-plate cartilages can be repaired or regenerated (Chapter 29).
