Anatomic Transurethral Resection of Prostate with Initial Hemostasis Using the Iglesias Suction Resectoscope Jose J. Iglesias, Andrew Sporer, and Joseph J. Seebode The authors present the use of the suction resectoscope in transurethral prostatic resection, stressing the maintenance of low intravesical pressure with this instrument. The photography obtained, utilizing a new optical attachment for endoscopic motion pictures, was excellent. Narration was poor in comparison to the excellent photography. Over-all, the authors’ views are well demonstrated, and urologists, residents, and paraprofessionals would profit from viewing this film. Lumhoscopy H. Summerkamp This film introduces the lumboscope and demonstrates its use in renal biopsy and renal cystoscopy. The author’s main point is that renal biopsy with the lumboscope is safer than percutaneous needle biopsy and less traumatic than conventional open biopsy. The sound and photography are good, and the film is well edited. This film may be useful for showing at departmental meetings. Surgical Treatment of Peyronie’s Disease James W. Merricks The author shows the surgical treatment of an extensive penile fibrous plaque. The use of a high-speed dental drill to remove the plaque was necessary because of the hardness and proximity of the lesion to the urethra. The author’s basic points are made, but the photography is jumpy. The sound is adequate and over-all the film is worth viewing by residents. Partial Nephrectomy Facilitated by a New Clamp Joseph J, Kaufman and Kristian Storm The use of a compressing, noncrushing parenchymal clamp in partial nephrectomy is demonstrated. The clamp allows compression of the kidney to control bleeding and graduated release of the clamp to allow individual control of bleeding points. The film is concise with excellent photography and sound. The subject is well covered and is enjoyable to watch. Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction in Infants and Children W. Hardy Hendren The author deals with the management of ureteropelvic obstruction in infants and children. The basic principles involved in the surgical corrections of these problems are well illustrated, using representative cases in the newborn and older children. The film

is well edited, permitting the author to present concisely these complex problems. The photography and sound are of fine quality. The Construction of an Ileal Conduit Using Surgical Staplers Falk K. Arnheim, Leonard A. Step& and Ronald Rabinowitz The use of the surgical stapler in constructing an ileal conduit is adequately demonstrated. The main reason for the use of surgical staplers is to permit uniform, rapid, and easy bowel anastomosis. The quality of photography and sound is good, and the film is well edited. The surgical stapler is widely used in bowel surgery by general surgeons and probably deserves more attention by urologists. Double Sling Suspension of Vesical Neck Reginald A. Hancock This film demonstrates the use of two strips of rectus fascia to suspend the bladder neck for the correction of female stress incontinence. The procedure is recommended after failure of routine operative attempts. The results are good with ten to fifteen years of followup. The photography, sound track, and editing are of excellent quality. The Ileal Conduit: Loop Stoma Ruppert Turnbull and Clarence B. Hewitt This is the second part of a series on the ileal conduit. The indications for the creation of a loop stoma are obesity, radiation changes, surgical scars, or any other abnormality of the abdominal wall that makes the endtype stoma difficult. The purpose of the loop is to permit the longer mesentery to transverse the abdominal wall with less tension. The surgical technique is well illustrated with good photography, editing, and sound track. Self-Examination of the Testes for Testicular Tumors John Ravera This film is intended for the general public to dramatize the need for self-examination of the testes. The author’s points are well made by utilizing an actual case of testicular tumor. The photography, sound, and editing are excellent. Renal Bench Surgery with Autotransplantation Michael Sullivan and John M. Palmer The indications for bench surgery are discussed. The intricate details of the procedure are shown, using a patient with renal cell carcinoma subjected to radical nephrectomy, bench surgery, and autotransplantation. The topic is well covered, with professional editing, photography and narration.
