Additives for Polvmers
F&port co-author Ms. Carolyn Reilly indicates that this 694 page study includes an in-depth business and opportunity analysis of antioxidants, degradation additives, heat stabilizers, light stabilizers and preservatives. The 1,800 interviews have identi~ed a variety of billed cus~mer~nee~ and have profiled a number of attractive acquisition targets. As one example of the opportunities identified, suppliers are pursuing co-additive compatibility as a strategy by providing technical service and by broadening their product lines. Another major area of opportunity is additive packages which allow gamma ray stabilization as a substitute for ethylene oxide and steam sterilization. The primary motivation is safety. PRODUCT Masterbatch for agricultural films
INFORMATION
A masterbatch developed by Mitsubishi Petrochemical for lowdensity polethylene and ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer agricultural films contains specially formulated glass filler. The structure is claimed to improve heat retention in greenhouses, thereby increasing plant yields. The filler has a refractive index similar to that of the host polymer, so the film retains its transparency to visible light but reflects a high proportion of the infrared radiation emitted by the plants. As a result, the inside of the greenhouse stays warm without having to resort to twin-wall sheet or additional heating sources.
