MEMBRANE STABILISE EFFECT OF NONIONOGENTC SURFACE ACTIVE AGENT PROXANOL P-268 DURING CANCER GROWTH V. Kipiani, K. Gambashidze, R. Khetsuriani, D. Karkarashvili Department of Pathophysiologv. Medical Universiw of Tbilisi, Georgia

It is not clear whether an IGF-I pathogenic influence in a neoplastic transformation’s processes, angiogenesis, formation of metastases is a universal character or it depends on a neoplasm type, IGF-IR density, regulatory influence of IGFBPs or other factors, such as body hormonal condition. The aim of this paper is: defining all relations among IGF-I and chosen hormones. The study was accepted by the Local Commission for Ethics. The following changes in the plasma levels of 24 breast cancer women (BC) as compared with the control (healthy) (C) (assessed by RIA and IRMA methods) were found: IGF-I did not differ significantly PRL, estradiol (E2), cortisol (F) levels were significantly higher. In all the studied groups, no relations among IGF-I and GH, PRL, E2, F, progesteron, met-enkephalin (MENK) and melatonin (MEL) were shown. In BC, a negative correlation between PRL and MENK and positive, between F and MENK was shown, Moreover, CMFchemotherapy decreases significantly IGF-I level in blood plasma, which allows stating a hypothesis about an additional positive effect of this treatment, CMF also changes partially a hormonal condition of the body.

The blood surface tension, biophysical parameters of blood, aggregation, resistance and deformability of erythrocytes membrane were studied in mice and rats by the method of Rebindery, EPR, filtration, photoelectrocalorimetry in dynamics of Ehrlich carcinoma and Walker carcinosarcoma growth before and after treatment with a surface active agent Proxanol P-268. It was stated, that in the process of cancer growth resistance and deformability of erytbrocytes membrane decrease, lipid peroxidation, erythrocytes agregability and blood surface tension increase, antioxigenic activity decreases and hypoxia develops. After treatment with Proxanol mentioned parameters vividly improve, especially on the early stage of cancer growth. Experimental animals life prolongs sharply, which is connected with preparative stabilising effect on biomembranes.

PECULIARITIES OF PHOSPHATIDYLGLYCEROL METABOLISM IN LUNG TUMORS B. S. Khyshiktuev, V. N. Ivanov Chita Medical Academy, Russia

The Endometrial Changes In Postmenopausal Breast Cancer Patients Treated With Tamoxifen Jale Metindir, Funda Atalay Deparmzent of Gynaecology Clinic, Ankara Oncology Hospital, Ankara, Turkey.

The purpose of our research was to study the level of phosphatidylglycerol (PG) - specific phospholipid of the pulmonary surfactant in various biological objects of the patients with lung cancer and non-malignant tumors of the respiratory organs. Tumor locus, surroundings tissues, pulmonary surfactant obtained from these sites, and also serum were investigated. The analysis was carried out by thin-layer two-dimensional chromatography with quantitative determination of PG by V.E.Vaskovsky et al. (1975). The level of PG in all histological forms of lung cancer, irrespective of the stage of malignant process in tumor locus was almost twice less as compared both to the normal lung tissue and non-malignant tissues. Values of this phospholipid in surroundings tissues were significantly higher, but did not reach control values. Similar changes were characteristic for pulmonary surfactant. Serum PG in significant amounts (3-5 % of the total phospholipids) was determined in patients with lung cancer, whereas in healthy persons and patients with nonmalignant tumors it was not practically registered. These results point to impaired PG metabolism of the bronchopulmonary system in lung cancer and can be use as a criterion of lung cells malignancy, as they are displayed from the most initial stages of malignant process.

Objective: To evaluate the endometrial pathologies in postmenopausal breast cancer patients treated with tamoxifen. Methods: 40 asymptomatic postmenopausal women, treated with tamoxifen. 35 had endometrial tissue obtained by biopsy Of these 8 had no endometrial tissue. Demographic characteristics, health habits, risk factors, vaginal ultrasonographic evaluations of endometrial thickness and texture, and histologic evaluations of endometrial biopsies. Results: Overall, there was a high rate (% 25.7 ) of endometrial pathological change among the asymptomatic postmenopausal women. Conclusion: It is impossible to predict which postmenopausal women will develop pathological endometrial changes after treatment with tamoxifen and thus a routine periodic endometrial sampling-follow up is suggested for all postmenopausal women being treated with this agent.
