Original Submission Recommendation Accept Comments to the author Review on AGRFORMET-D-14-00797: What drives growth of Scots pine in continental Mediterranean climates: drought, low temperatures or both? by R. Sanchez-Salguero et al. for Agricultural and Forest Meteorology. This paper tries to identify the main climatic factors limiting tree growth at different geographical scales. The study uses a large amount of dendrochronological data from a wide geographical area, making its conclusions to escape from localisms. The article is clearly written and easy to follow. This is a well carried study with

Thus I firmly recommend this manuscript to be published in Agricultural and Forest Meteorology. Some very minor comments: L93: Remove the second “by” L100: Better to change “. . .extent: the. . .” by “. . .extent, the. . .” L147: “Form” instead of “from”? L162-165: State the period for these values. L310: Replace “similarity” by “similarly” L433: Add a reference regarding the genetic variability. L436: Delete the final “to” in the line.
