Ian Rixham has been appointed managing director of the Seals and Lubrication Division of Thomas Ashton Ltd after 21 years with the company. He started his career in the purchase accounts department in 1973 before transferring to sales.

The new HGH and VGH series can be used wherever the design of stuffing boxes leaves little room for installing or replacing a seal, ff there are no quickchange devices available, or ff the affected pump is operated without a stand-by, Le. in those cases where the inspection or repair of unsplit mechanical seals would involve cost-intenalve stoppage and assembly time. With the HGH type, only the actual wearing parts such as the seal face and the stationary seal come in split design. All the parts can be replaced, along with the springs and O.rlngs, without having to dismantle the mechanical seal completely. The springs are located outside the process medium. The fully split version, type VGH, is used when the axial space is confined so much so that the seal can only be dtmaantled in radial direction. In this case, every part of the casing and seal is split and can be replaced without the machine having to be dismantled. These seals can operate in pressures up to 10 bar and temperatures up to 150 °C; the sliding velocity is 20 m/s. Refinery to use API 682 seals t h r o u g h o u t The Star Petroleum Refinery Company Ltd (SPRC) is building the first ~Rnery, Star Petroleum in Thailand, to use the API 682 standard for seats throughout. SPRC has specified Flexibox as its seal supplier on this project. Hex/hox is able to supply API 682 seals for the pumps on the refinery, without taking exception to any part of the standarcL The company's API 682 seals are qu~,aed and type tested in the Flexibox International

BW/IP Inc a c q u i t s Five Star Seal BW/IP Inc announced recently that it has acquired the business and assets of Five Star Seal Corporation. The terms and price of the purchase were not disclosed. Five Star produces and markets mechanical seals and related products for pumps and mixers and sells through a network of 60 distributors in the USA and six international distributors. The majority of its ~,lea are to the US pulp and paper and chemical markets. The company also sells to the mineral and ore processing, power, food processing and water industries.
