This Special Issue of The Microchemical Journal is devoted to the fifteenth edition of the Italian-Hungarian Symposium on Spectrochemistry held in Pisa (Italy), 12 – 16 June, 2016 and contains full papers based on a selected number of oral and poster presentations given on that occasion. As a part of the bilateral governmental programme for scientific and technical cooperation between Italy and Hungary, this series of biennial events is a well-established tradition which provides scientists from both countries with a permanent forum to discuss the outcome of their studies, primarily in the field of human health and environmental protection. The Pisa Symposium centered on the impressive advances made by pharmacology in recent years and the ensuing undeniable benefits for the society as a whole as well as on the role played in this context by innovative analytical techniques and their potential to strongly support pharmacological research. The participation in the Symposium of prominent scientists not only from Italy and Hungary, but also from several other countries further stimulated a lively exchange of views and information on novel approaches thus further contributing to promote research, stimulate innovation and establish new partnerships in the field of pharmacology.
