The Sax gun SG 503 8BM, for applying spray compound, has been redesigned to better serve the needs of decorative bright-mirror-finish metal products. Along with the gun, Sax designs and installs spray systems including pumps, timers, and complete bulk feeding application systems. Further complementing the Sax System are processes for decorative metal parts, which include compounds for metalworking, polishing, buffing, and cleaning.

Finishing Steering Shafts Hammond Machinery Inc. Kalamazoo, Mich. Hammond’s power roller conveyors are made of steel and induction heat treated on the rack end. Parts are automatically fed from the heat treat operation to the roller conveyor. The power roller conveyor rotates and transports steering shafts beneath three flexible finishing heads to create a continuous process. The first finishing head uses grit-impregnated nylon disks to remove the heat treat scale and to begin the finish of the OD. The disks are grouped to form a 6-in. face wheel. This type of media allows flexibility to remove discoloration from the rack teeth. Oscillation of the work spindle also improves the action of the disk. The second and third heads use progressively finer nylon wheels to produce the required Ra. All heads have automatic wheel wear adjustments to provide continuous work flow without operator involvement.
