Polvbenzimidazole Friction and Wear Properties Hoechst Celanese: Celazole Unfilled melt-processable PBI compound was tested with virgin PBI, unfilled polyimide and polyamideimide as the controls, while melt-processable PBI lube grade was compared to virgin PBI, unfilled polyimide, PBI lube grade and lube grade polyimide. The comparative results indicate that the unfilled melt-processable PBI exhibits outstanding wear and friction properties among these high performance unfilled engineering plastics. This nature of the unfilled melt-processable PBI compounds, when combined with selected lubricants, gives the melt-processable PBI lube grade good wear and friction performance (low wear rate, low running temperature and low friction coefficient) among the high performance lube grade plastics. Further, all reinforced melt-processable compounds have improved impact resistance and tensile properties when compared to virgin PBI.
