buys Membrana

Microporous membrane manufacturer Polypore Inc has bought Membrana GmbH of Germany from the Acordis group for an mldisclosed sum. Mcmbrana manufactures high performance membranes for industrial water filtration, medical applications and the pharmaceutical, food & beverage, semiconductor and environmental technology industries. The company has two manufacturing plants in Germany, one in Wuppertal and the other in Obernburg. Polypore manufactures and supplies microporous membranes for the energy storage and separations markets, offering products such as electrolytic separators for industrial, automotive and speciality energy storage applications, and membranes for lithium batteries. Polypore says this acquisition will enhance its position as a leading supplier of membrane products for medical applications and the semiconductor, power, pharmaceutical, food & beverage, and photographic markets. Including Membrana, Polypore has ten manufacturing facilities located in the USA, Europe and Asia, as well as sales offices in North and South America, Europe, Japan, Australia, South East Asia and China.
