Digital eddy-current test and data control system has multifrequency capability Multicoil and multifrequency testing capabilities are offered by a digital eddy-current inspection system from Zetec. The MIZ-18 can test materials with four coils and four frequencies or eight coils and two frequencies, simultaneously. The operator can look for most types of defects using a single pass of the probe over test materials.
System control and data processing is handled by a Hewlett Packard 9836 computer. This displays data on a CRT in real time. All data are stored on a mass-storage digital tape unit.
The system consists of a remote data acquisition unit and a local controller section. Using digital

links, the two units can be separated by up to 300 m. Digital signal processing also allows pull speeds higher than 0.3 m s-1. Portable crack detector WGP 1 5 0 0 from Karl Deutsch, now on sale outside the FRG
systems--it has a current output of up to 1000 A AC continuous, or 1 500 A pulsed. It also has higher output voltage than previous models. The unit can be used for testing sheet edges, weld seams, rivet holes, pressure vessels and containers, and heavy castings. It can also serve to detect fatigue cracks on press frames, machine beds, rolling stands and girderwork. A range of prods and clamps with quick snap connectors is available for use with the crack detector. UK agents for the Unit are Teledictor at Coneygre Industrial Estate, Tipton, West Midlands.

Fibreoptic photography To simplify photography through rigid borescopes and flexible fibrescopes when no conventional camera support exists, Keymed Industrial has devised the Articulated Camera Arm. A clamp at one end of the unit can grip onto common objects such as bench tops, pipes or ladder rungs, providing the necessary support. The head also has a swivel and tilt facility and is fitted with a standard thread to fit all 35 mm camera tripod mounts. The whole unit incorporates lightweight tubular steel arms with a reach in excess of 40 cm. The arms can be adjusted to suit each inspection and the connecting joint is fixed by a fully Iockable brake.
Slimmer borescope KMI has also recently added a 4 mm diameter borescope for inspection of fine bore pipework to its Olympus Mark II borescope range. It is the slimmest model in

the range; the next smallest is 6 mm in diameter. Handling and orbital scan facilities offered with existing models have been retained. Individual borescopes of this size can be built for specific requirements. The direct-viewing model has four standard working lengths from 7 cm to 32 cm, and a choice of four fields-of-view. The lateral viewing model has five standard working lengths from 2 cm to 37 cm, and a choice of three fields-of-view.

Ultrasonic pulse modulator and receiver A solid-state pulse modulator and receiver that can be used as the main frame in pulsed ultrasonic systems is available from Matec. The Model 7700 has a switchselectable IF amplifier bandwidth, and a sensitive echo detector. Operation is in either single or double pulse mode. Pulse widths are continuously variable from 0.5 to 100/~s up to 90 MHz, and from 0.5 to 5/~s up to 700 MHz.
