buffer fluid; and the pressurised PA-300 dual in-line seal, operated with a barrier fluid. These are cartridge, balanced, inside, pusher designs that incorporate unitised compression units to simplify installation. All three seals incorporate distributed flush arrangements. The seals, which incorporate an internal diameter-balanced design and mating ring retention, are capable of handling pressure reversals. In order to extend service life. the PA-Series seals incorporate design features which maximise heat transfer from the seal faces. Rotating seal faces are made from premium grade blister-resistant carbon and stationary mating rings are reaction-bonded silicon carbide. One of these design features is a high performance flow inducer on the PA-200 and PA-300 dual seal arrangements. The flow inducer improves the circulation of seal flush across the rotating carbon faces. A flush around the outside diameter of the stationary, silicon carbide seal face, is also incorporated. Other innovative features include: interchangeable rotating lmits

The range of seals is available in shaft sizes from 0.75 in to 5 in. at increments of 0.125 in, complementing the ten metric shaft sizes listed in the API 682 standard. These seals are capable of operating at pressures up to 500 psi, depending on pressure-velocity characteristics, in waterjcaustics, non-flushing hydrocarbons, and flashing hydrocarbons. Operating temperatures reach 180F in water/caustic, 300F in non-flashing hydrocarbons, and 5OOF in flashing hydrocarbons.

Maximum operating speed the PA-Series seal is 25m/s.

Portable universal

pumps

Suitable for applications where liquids of low to medium viscosity are to be pumped to or from tanks, trucks or containers, the 600 Series of pumps is now available from Flux Pumps in horizontal and vertical units. The pumps are portable, and can be fixed onto containers with a mounting flange. Materials of construction depend on the application. The F620N has a pump tube set manufactured from aluminium and is suitable for noncorrosive materials. The tube set of the F62OS is made from stainless steel and can be used to pump corrosive fluids and liquid foodstuffs. Parts of the F630K which contact fluid are manufactured in polypropylene, Hastelloy C, PTFE and sintered ceramic making it suitable for very corrosive liquids. The F62ON and F620S can effectively pump liquids of medium viscosity up to 7500 mPa, while the F630K is suitable for liquids up to 40 mPa and provides continuous output even if temperature fluctuations cause the polypropylene outer tube to expand or contract. High pressure ram pump development Using its experience in high pressure water applications in coal mines, Holden and Brooke Ltd. is bringing an extended

range of ram pump to a wider market. The Thmax crankshaft driven reciprocating pump range now provides high effciency pumping at pressure up to 1000 bar and flows up to 600 l/min. Higher pressures required for cleaning and cutting are achieved by the Trijet design with a simple pumping head change. The Trimax pump was engineered to meet underground mining standards, having a robust, enclosed construction to prevent damage from air borne dust and water and to ensure operation in hazardous areas. The company has recently added the S250 pump to the range to meet higher specifications of manufacturing and processing industries. The three-ram positive displacement Trimax pumps’ fan assisted ventilation and cooling enable opeationoperation in confined spaces or hot environ ments. The company claims the pump provides a steady flow at efficiencies of 90.95’X. Pulsation dampers may be included for rigid pipework systems or on hot water duties to prevent cavitation, A range of design options is available, including direct, flexibly coupled
