Portuguese Museum of Anesthesiology On October 1 9, 1 996, Dr. Avelino F. Espinheira opened the doors of the Por tuguese Museum of Anesthesiology in Lisbon. In honor of the event, which com memora tes 1 50 years of anesthesia as demonstrated by Morton, three medals were struck, as illustrated here. Who Was First? At the 2 1 st Annual Caribbean Sym posium in Anesthesiology held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, each autumn, one of the distinguished speakers was Dr. Jan Ehrenwerth, who is Professor of Anes thesiology in the Department of Anes thesiology at Yale University School of Medicine. At this Symposium, which is organized by Dr. Miguel Colon-Morales, the accompanying photograph was taken by Dr. Colon-Morales at the Farewell Party. The T-shirt which Dr. Ehrenworth is wearing is obtainable from the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology. The T-shirts, which also may depict Horace Wells or Crawford Long on one side, all question "who was first" on the reverse side, which emphasizes the enduring quandary of "Who Was First?" -Editor
