segment supported on the occlusal surface of the posterior teeth can be bent to follow the drawing made with the pencil (Fig 2). With the wire segment correctly adapted on the separated cast, acrylic resin is used to stabilize it to the teeth used as a reference (Fig 3). Finishing and polishing may be necessary if there is any cutting edge or if any structure could interfere with surgery (Fig 4). After these steps, the guide is ready to be used through surgery, indicating exactly where the miniplate must be placed (Fig 5).

sitioning can make them useless for orthodontic movement. This article describes a simple and practical surgical guide developed to help surgeons and orthodontists in the determination of miniplate placement, making their communication easier. The first step is to define the ideal location for miniplate fixation based on the orthodontic treatment plan. Then, a pencil is used to draw a circle exactly on the place determined on a patient’s dental cast (Fig 1). A 0.028-inch stainless steel wire
