Editor’s Note: The AORN Journal editorial staff and National Editorial Committee have expanded the purposes and objectives of this column to meet the needs of the operating room nurse-not exclusively in the OR, but on the wards, in the administrative office, in the classroom, and in the organizational structure of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Questions on any subject are welcomed and requested. They will be forwarded to an expert in the particular area, and answered in the current working issue of the AORN Journal. Q. Where can I take a postgraduate course for a degree in operating room nursing?

A. Postgraduate courses in OR nursing d o not offer degrees. However, there are three universities where you may study on a master’s degree level in medical-surgical clinical specialization, and any one of these universities might allow for a

Q. Where can I obtain money to return to school f o r a degree?

A. A good place to begin your search for financial aid is with the AORN Purdue Frederick Fellowships for Graduate Training in Operating Room Nursing. Three such fellowships are awarded yearly to Association members. They are paid in one lump sum of $500 and the winners are announced at the AORN National Congress.

To be considered for the Purdue Frederick grants, you must be: 1) in need of assisLance ; 2 ) pursuing a degree/diploma/certificate which will benefit you in the area of OR nursing; 3) endowed with the attributes for success in the practice of OR nursing; 4) a member of AORN for at least one year. Other requirements are a 500 word paper on how you expect the educational experience to benefit you personnally and professionally ; and three letters of recommendation-one from your current employer. All information must be submitted by Jan 1 of the year in which the award would be made, and the recipients will be chosen by committee by Feb 1. Inquiries on this and other available scholarships should be directed to the AORN Education Department.
