Diaphragms have improved service life German seals specialist Freudenberg Simrit has developed a new range of diaphragms made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that are abrasion-resistant and have improved service life. Polyurethane reportedly makes it possible to adapt sealing materials to meet exact user requirements, due to its molecular blueprint and its controllable chemical synthesis. The TPU diaphragm material has more tear propagation resistance than conventional elastomers and high tensile strength and elasticity. The diaghrams have improved tear propagation properties and flexural fatigue strength. When bonded with PTFE films they can be used in conjunction with very aggressive media, and are resistance to ozone and oxidizing agents. inserts, PTFE protective film, inserts, and overall composite structure can be adapted to meet the relevant set of requirements in a given application. The diaphragms are suitable for vacuum pumps, double diaphragm pumps, or diaphragm metering pumps, pneumatic systems, fittings, air conditioning and heating technology, sanitary systems and architectural engineering.

Axial ball bearings cut energy consumption The Schaeffler Group has developed a new range of axial ball bearings that could reduce energy consumption in refrigeration compressors by up to 5%, and improve the overall energy efficiency by one class. The new FAG bearings from are specifically matched to eccentric shaft bearings in refrigeration compressors, replacing the plain bearings that are normally used in these mounting positions. Four types of FAG axial ball bearings are available, which can be freely

combined. Both bearing washers can be supplied with or without raceways. Bearing cages are supplied in either sheet steel or plastic, matched to the operating environment. The bearing materials are compatible with coolants and are resistant to varying temperatures. The sheet steel cage has a special ‘filigree’ (twisted wire) design, which provides high rigidity and works better than plastic cages for the high temperatures that occur in these bearing positions. In addition, coolant compatibility tests are no longer necessary. In the basic design, the axial bearing washers are punched, through-hardened and polished, and both sides can be used as raceways. The size of the bearing can be adapted to suit individual mounting locations.

Powerful contractor pumps Tsurumi has introduced four large contractor pumps designed for high-head, high capacity and high pressure work in rugged conditions, to the European market. The new pumps include three new LH series models and a new pump in the GSZ range. The LH series are high-head, three-phase dewatering pumps capable of withstanding deep water pressure levels. The LH890 and LH690 models, which have a 90 kW motor, and the LH8110, which has a 110 kW motor, are suitable for used in stone quarries. The pumps are almost 1.8 m tall, weigh over 1 tonne, and are 0.6 m wide. The pumps feature an impeller made of high chromium iron casting and a cylindrical drive channel whose flow-through design maintains motor cooling. and up to a head of 107 m, the LH690 can deliver up to 2,500 l/min and has a maximum head of 150 m. The LH890 can pump up to 90 m with a maximum capacity of 6,000 l/min. The GSZ pump is designed for high-head, high capacity work in rugged conditions. It is a three-phase submersible cast iron contractor pump that stands almost 1.8 m tall, measures more than 1 m wide and weighs approximately 1.2 tonnes. It is capable of transporting up to 12,500 l/min with a maximum head of 52 m. The pump features a special steel impeller and suction plate and an internal spiral structure to help ensure the smooth passage of sand, soil, sludge or slime without clogging.
