The environmental scientific community would benefit from the availability of a database that provides legally acceptable limits as well as limits adopted by scholarly and similar organizations of hazardous materials. This book is an attempt to partially respond to this need. However, because new data are becoming available continuously and, regardless of the diligence of the authors and publishers, such a book can seldom remain up to date for a reasonable time after its publication. The author and the publisher would be well advised to prepare a computer-based system that is continuously updated.
