New FIT Case Study Workshops Plan to attend the FIT Case Study Workshop, a new program for the 2016 Annual Meeting. First year fellows-in-training (FITs) had a chance to submit case reports for possible inclusion in two case presentation workshops at the 2016 Annual Meeting. Accepted cases will demonstrate a unique observation or a “teachable moment” that is valuable to others in the allergy/ immunology community. It offers great resume-building experiences for young allergist/immunologists who want to showcase their work and network with others in the specialty. Ten reports will be presented in two case presentation workshops in Los Angeles. The first session will be Saturday, March 5 from 4:45 to 6:00 pm. Practice Notes from the AAAAI building interest among young investigators and developing a research agenda for collaborative studies. This program is organized in conjunction with the Consortium of Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease Researchers (CEGIR), which is part of the National Institute of Health’s Rare Disease Clinical Research Consortium Network, supported by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. A diverse group of specialists including allergists, immunologists, gastroenterologists, dieticians and pathologists will address the pathogenesis, allergy component, nutrition, treatment and natural history of eosinophilic esophagitis. This course utilizes a combination of lecture, research presentations and small group discussions. The 2016 course will also include a series of lunchtime problem-based learning breakout sessions based on key clinical questions. Delegates will be able to select one of ten options to attend. Local healthcare professionals may choose to only attend the TIGERS session, even if they are not registered for the entire Annual Meeting. Asthma Educator Course Comes to Los Angeles Do you educate patients with asthma? Do you want to learn more about the certification or recertification process as an asthma educator? This session is offered by the AAAAI in partnership with the Association of Asthma Educators (AAE) and in accordance with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Expert Panel Report 3 (EPR-3): Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. Food Allergy Management Course to Follow 2016 Annual Meeting Stay in Los Angeles for an extra day to take advantage of a new, stand-alone course. Space is limited to only 80 attendees. Immediately after the 2016 AAAAI Annual Meeting, the International Network for Diet and Nutrition in Allergy (INDANA) in collaboration with AAAAI will be hosting a fullday live course. Titled “Food Allergy: The Spectrum of Disease, its Diagnosis and Management,” it will take place at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles on Tuesday, March 8 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Practice Notes from the AAAAI This course is tailored for physicians, nurses and dieticians who treat food allergic patients. Topics include: food allergy prevention (the LEAP and LEAP On studies), understanding non-IgE-mediated allergies and differential diagnosis, principles of nutrition and dietary management and the role of the microbiome. In the afternoon, attendees can participate in a variety of problem-based learning workshops to offer in-depth exposure to common nutritional issues in food allergy management. The course is approved for AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM for physicians and continuing education contact hours for nurses. Save the Date: The Life Spectrum of Asthma
Stemming from the initiatives of AAAAI President Robert F. Lemanske, Jr., MD, FAAAAI, an AAAAI program on asthma pathogenesis and treatment has been scheduled for summer 2016. Titled “The Life Spectrum of Asthma,” this weekend course is set to take place July 29-31 in Chicago. “The content will provide allergy/immunology specialists with the tools they need to be recognized as the experts in the use of biologics and immunoinflammatory modulating agents to treat asthma,” said Lemanske. “You can also expect interactive learning, as we will be incorporating some of the novel educational approaches that Immediate Past-President James T. Li, MD, PhD, FAAAAI, introduced to our membership,” he added. The topics addressed will cover the entire life spectrum of asthma including inception and primary prevention, exacerbations, and progression to more severe forms of the disease.
