Reverseosmosis systemsfeatureflexible operatorcontrol A new range of reverse osmosis (RO) systems, designed and manufactured in the UR by Memcor Ltd, features the latest PLC control with a visual display for simple and flexible operator communication. Applications include the production of purified water for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical, chemical, power generation and offshore oil sectors and the treatment of sea and brackish water. The system employs a membrane which separates the dissolved solids and other impurities from the water by allowing only pure water to permeate through the membrane. The purifmd water is drawn off for use and the impurities which build up on

the feed side of the membrane are continuously flushed away. The Memcor reverse osmosis plants are compact, slddmounted units with capacities ranging from 2 to 60 m3/h Memcor has incorporated PLC control with an operator interface and a message display to give direct access to the software. Alarms and faults, status reports and servicing information, such as when ‘clean-in-place’ (CIP) is required, are displayed. The CIP and other functions are carried out automatically and controls for automatic pretreatment can be integrated. iUemcorLtd. Derbu Road. Wirksworth, De&shire--DE4 Tel: + 44 629 82S811.

A new range of compact, backflushing self-clean strainers, designed especially for water systems, is now available from Plenty Filters. These units reduce maintenance to a minimum by automatically discharging contaminate to drain. They therefore require no manual supervision. Without interruption to the liquid flow, the units collect and discharge debris by utilising the pressure and process fluid within the system. The build-up of contaminate increases the differential pressure across the filtration element which, in turn, triggers the drive motor on the cleaning arm and opens the effluent valve to drain. process liquid is lost as the cycle is completed in a matter of seconds. This new range, has been manufactured from cast iron to provide a low-cost option, and is also available in stainless steel. Design pressure is 150 psig (10 bar g) @ 38°C and units are available for pipe sizes between 3” and 12” with related flows (IGPM) from 170 to 2170. Plenty Filters can also supply other standard products to a pipe size of 30” with larger sizes available as specials. Pkntg Filters, Hambridge Road, Newbury, Berkshine RG14 STR, UK. Pre andfinalfilter in
one cartridge Filter cartridges comprising of two distinct layers in each cartridge have been developed by Costar Corporation. The filters are called CoaX filter cartridges and have the first, outer layer is a melt blown prefilter and the second is made of a bicomponent polyethylene/ polyproylene fibre. The combination of the pre filter and final filter in one cartridge has a positive effect on th euseful life and dirt capacity of the filter. Using standardized methods with test comntaminants the CoaX filters have shown throughput increases in the range of 30% to over 100%. The cartridges are available with removal ratings from 1 pm to 200 pm. The cartridges are extremely rigid which means that increases in differential pressure do not result in a partial collapse of the filter matrix.
