The Editor had the opportunity of reading in Neurology 1988;38:1138-1139, the Report of the Ad Hoc Committee on Classification of Headache described by Robert B. Daroff of Cleveland, Chairman of the Department of Neurology at Case Western Reserve. 1 was so impressed by this but, at the same time (as he pointed out himself), so overwhelmed by it, that 1 took the opportunity to abbreviate it and submit my shortened version to him for his approval.

With minor changes, he has agreed to publish this as a special article in Surgical Neurology for the benefit of neurosurgeons, particularly, but also for al1 of the others in the neurosciences who might be intimidated by the very detailed classification that appeared in Cephalalgia 1988;8(Suppl 7).
