Chemiean/agenbau G.m.b.H. Leipzig-Grimma E. Ger. 295,866, Nov. 14, 1991; Appl. May 19, 1989 An alcohol-free beer is prepared from a normally brewed beer by adsorption of EtOH onto a (NaZSM-5, Si/AI -- 50) zeolite bound with a cellulose derivative. The pore size is large enough to admit EtOH but not molecules responsible for the flavor of the beer. The EtOH-saturated adsorbent can be regenerated by thermal desorption.

Gas Research Institute U.S. 5,052,188, Oct. 1, 1991; Appl. Oct. 24, 1990 The particulate desiccant for air conditioning systems comprises a modified aluminosilicate (e.g., zeolite 13Y, zeolite NaY, erionite) having an isotherm separation factor of 0.07-0.1, a SIO2/AI203 ratio of >~3:1, and a pore diameter of 4-10 A. To reduce the polarity on the inner surfaces, the aluminosilicate is treated with an aqueous acid or ammonium solution (e.g., NH4CI) for exchange of metal ions with protons and removal of a portion of the AI. The acid can be EDTA or HCi. C h r y s o z e o l i t e soil amendments R.L. Van Mao U.S. 5,082,488, Jan. 21, 1992; Appl. June 20, 1990 The chrysozeolites A and X, comprising a Mg-leached asbestos matrix with a zeolite crystal structure thereon, are soil conditioners, especially useful for enhancing the soil water-retention capacity.

Sterilization of contact lens by hydrogen peroxide M. Sakai

Tomei Sangyo K.K. Jpn Kokai Tokkyo Koho 91,275,063, Dec. 5, 1991; Appl. Mar. 24, 1990 Contact lenses are sterilized by H202 and subsequently the residual H202 is decomposed by Cu (OH)2 and/or Cu complex ion bound to zeolites. After sterilization of the lens by H202, the residual H202 is rapidly decomposed by Cu2+. Thus, a soft contact lens and Cu(OH)2bound zeolite were added to a HzO2 solution. The lens was sterilized and the residual H202 degraded by Cu2+ in the same solution.
